Traverse City Central High School Student Receives Perfect Score on SAT

 

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) is pleased to announce that Lucy Poppleton, a Senior student as part of the graduating class of 2024, at Traverse City Central High School, has received a perfect score of 1600 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) on the school day test in April, 2023.

It is offered to all students in the state of Michigan and serves as a measure of college readiness. Total scores on the SAT range from 400-1600, and include scores for evidence-based reading and writing and math. Less than 0.05% of students who take the SAT each year earn a perfect score.

“Lucy is an outstanding student as part of our SCI-MA-TECH and STEM program, a writer for our Black & Gold Quarterly (student magazine), and an active member of National Honor Society. Lucy is an exceptional scholar in all that she does. She completed AP Calculus BC and earned college credit for both Calculus 1 & 2 in eighth grade. Since then, she has completed a host of college-level courses in fields such as Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Differential Geometry, and Complex Analysis. Achieving a perfect SAT score aligns with the high level of academic work Lucy continuously demonstrates, ” said Jessie Houghton, principal of Traverse City Central High School.

 “Lucy Poppleton is an extraordinary student. It is rare to find someone who is so academically gifted, yet so humble and gracious. Her attention to detail and commitment to excellence, particularly in her writing for the Black and Gold Quarterly magazine, is something that all students should strive for. I am incredibly proud of her accomplishments both in and out of the classroom, and I know she will use her talents and strengths to make a meaningful impact on others, ” said Susan Roskelley, English teacher at Central High School.
