Summer Academy

Overview

Summer Academy is open to all incoming 9th – 12th grade students. No residency is required. Summer Academy is a great opportunity for students needing to recover credits, wanting to accelerate, or looking to free up an hour for electives such as choir, band, or theater.

2023 Classes and Teacher Support

TCAPS Summer Academy is a hybrid model of an online platform with in-person teacher support and/or workspace. The online platform is either Edgenuity or Brightspace, depending on the course.  This includes online assignments, video lectures, and assessments. Classes combine the best of highly qualified TCAPS teachers with the effective use of interactive technology. Courses can be accessed  24 hours a day, 7 days a week at school and at home. The programs provide rich multimedia presentations that engage students in the learning process.

  • Hosted at West Senior High School, library
  • Sessions are open July 10th to August 3rd, Mondays through Thursdays
  • Highly qualified teacher support times and office hours are from 8:00 AM to Noon.
  • Online courses are available 24/7 and are to be completed by August 3rd.

2023 Orientation

  • Orientation sessions will be held July 5th at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM at West Senior High School.

  • Orientation is required for all students for initial log-ins, meeting teachers, learning guidelines, and troubleshooting any start-up issues.

  • Payment is due prior to online classes being “open”.  If possible, it is recommended that registration and payment have been completed prior to orientation so that students can be registered and classes activated.

Credit Recovery Information (CR)

Credit Recovery classes are for students who did not receive credit for a course and earned a 50% or higher in the course. Depending on enrollment, courses will be offered through Brightspace or Edgenuity.

  • Credit recovery courses are FREE or at a reduced cost to qualifying TCAPS students in 2023.
  • Attendance Requirement: Support session, daily, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM or 10:00 AM to Noon.

  • Completion Requirement: Once a course is completed at the set proficiency level, the course is concluded and credit is awarded. TCAPS students will not need to follow-up. Non-TCAPS students will need their counselors to request grade reports. Students can finish courses prior to the end of Summer Academy. If a student finishes early enough, a second course could be added. Edgenuity estimates classes to take 30 to 50 hours of focused work time.
  • Course Allotment:  Up to two courses can be taken at any given time.

Initial Course Information (IC)

Initial courses are for students taking a course for the first time or for students that did not complete a course with at least a 50%.  Courses are set in Edgenuity to be sequential or all content completed in a set order, like a standard classroom instruction.

  • Attendance Requirement: No attendance is required for first-time students. Students retaking a course must attend a support session, daily, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM or 10:00 AM to Noon.
