Flournoy Humphreys (West Middle School Band Teacher), Lance Morgan (Traverse City High School Principal), Stephanie Schall-Brazee (K-12 Music Teacher), and Aimee Cole (West Senior High School English Teacher) have each been selected as 2019 Outstanding Educators of the Traverse Bay Region.
On Thursday, May 23, 2019, the Traverse City Music Boosters will host their Annual Benefit Concert at 7:00 p.m. in the Traverse City Central High School gymnasium (1150 Milliken Dr.).
Traverse City West Senior High School student, Hailey LaBonte, received a full scholarship to study abroad in Germany from the U.S. Congress and German Bundestag.
Traverse City West Senior High School’s Junior Class Council is hosting a Fill the Backpack Drive until May 31, 2019. The drive is to collect donations of school supplies and hygiene products.
The Young Americans Performing Arts Camp will held at the Traverse City Central High School auditorium (1150 Milliken Dr.) from June 18-21, 2019, with a finale show on Saturday, June 22, 2019.
The TCAPS Board of Education voted unanimously (7-0) to select Ms. Ann Cardon to move on to the final round of the superintendent selection process. Ms. Cardon will be invited to a “fit to district” tour, which will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Traverse City Area Public Schools with the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award marks the 14th consecutive year the district has received this honor, which recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability.

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, the Traverse City West Middle School 8th grade class will participate in its annual community service project called Project Greenagers. Each 8th grade team will be working with a different community organization on projects that service local natural resources.
Traverse City Central High School student, Matthew Failor, has been selected as a winner of a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship. Out of the approximately 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 7,500 students received a National Merit Scholarship.
Traverse City Central High School sophomore, Lauren Berry, was awarded a scholarship to attend the Women in Engineering (WIE) program at Michigan Technological University.
The Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) District 2 membership has selected Flournoy Humphreys as the Teacher of the Year for 2018-19. She was selected in recognition of the significant contributions she has made and the impact she has had on students at West Middle School and West Senior High School, as well as for her contributions to MSBOA and music education in the state.

The Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Board of Education has selected six candidates to participate in technical interviews for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Interviews will take place on May 18, 2019, at the Boardman Administration Center (412 Boardman Ave.). Interviews will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will last approximately one hour for each candidate.
