LL News: 3.10.24 Dr. VanWagoner at PTO, Crooked Tree Art Exhibit, & Reading Month

PTO Meeting This Thursday at 6:30 PM with Dr. VanWagoner: Please join me at the next Long Lake Elementary PTO meeting this Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 6:30 PM in the library to hear a presentation from TCAPS Superintendent, Dr. VanWagoner, about the upcoming bond proposal and future plans for our school building. Crooked Tree Art Exhibit: Long Lake Students exhibited in the Crooked Tree Annual Youth Art exhibit. The exhibit will run from March 15-April 15.  Congrats to our exhibiting students:

Upcoming Assembly- Thanks to PTO, we have the great opportunity to host JHobbs Music for an assembly on April 5th!  Jeremy Hobbs is a local musician who has written songs about perseverance, hard work, and having a positive outlook.  You can check out one his songs hereAlso you can check out a video of him here.  

 

School Yearbooks:  Yearbooks are available to purchase online and many families have already purchased them. The process to order is simple! When you visit the following website: www.ybpay.com. You will need the Long Lake yearbook ID Code which is 15170524.  The cost is $12 per yearbook. We do have funds available to help families in need. If your family would benefit from a scholarship for a yearbook, please complete this form or contact the school office to let us know. 

Save the Date Whole School Field Trip- May 30th: We are excited to partner with the Boardman River Nature Center again this year to participate in our All School Field Trip on May 30th.  They are organizing and planning specific field lessons to match each grade level content standards.  We will be looking for parent chaperones for the date.  Please keep an eye out for a permission slip and more information coming home after spring break.

 

Pit Spitters Reading Program:

Long Lake is participating in the Pit Spitters reading program again this year!  The challenge is to read for at least 15 minutes a day for 30 days. You can learn more here.

STUDENT RUN CREDIT UNION: This year Long Lake Elementary is participating in a TBA Student-Run Credit Union! The deposit days are March 13, April 10, and May 8th  starting at 9:05 AM.  Our Money Magic Club is an excellent opportunity for student to create a savings account and start saving money at a young age! To sign your student up for a Money Magic savings account, please pick up an application from the main office or scan the QR code below. Once your student has an account, they can come to the art room to make deposits on our deposit dates. PTO INFORMATION

PRINCESS DANCE: Thank you to all those who joined us for the Princess Dance yesterday!  It was a magical time!  We couldn’t have done it without our volunteers and donations. 

SAVE THE DATE: FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT APRIL 19TH: Join us for a family movie night on Friday, April 19th at 6:30 p.m. This is a free event for families. Bring your blankets and water bottles. PTO will provide free popcorn!

DISTRICT INFORMATION

 TCAPS Student Health Center is now open! Through a partnership with Northwest Michigan Health Services Inc., convenient and affordable primary care and behavioral health services are available to all TCAPS students ages 3-21. The TCAPS Student Health Center is open year-round. Health insurance or not, everyone is welcome. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 231.642.5291 or request an appointment electronically.  They are open Monday- Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM.

 

Superintendent Monthly Office Hours  Dr. John VanWagoner's monthly open office hours for community members will be held in person on Tuesday, March 12 at 5:00 pm at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.  The meeting will be located on the mezzanine level (second floor) of the bookstore.

  

 

TCAPS Board of Education Monthly Office Hours The Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Board of Education will host its next monthly “office hours” in person on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.  The meeting will be located on the mezzanine level (second floor) of the bookstore. TCAPS Board office hours provide community members with the opportunity to talk to a school board trustee. This month, Trustee Humphreys is scheduled to attend.
