LL News: 6.8.25 Last Day Wednesday & Half Day of School
Good evening Long Lake Families,
This is Kate Burwinkel with the news for this week.
Our 2024-25 school year is nearly complete and it seems to have just flown by. As I reflect upon this year, I am grateful to so many people. To raise our children, it takes a village and the collaboration of every adult who interactions with them. I am honored to have been a part of Long Lake’s journey this year and I am thrilled to start 2025-26 year together.
As we part for summer, I want to share some exciting planning that is going on at Long Lake! NEW HOUSE SYSTEM AT LONG LAKE NEXT YEAR: Our school theme next year will be incorporating a House System. You might know about this if you've read any of the Harry Potter books. The House System is also used at a famous school called the Ron Clark Academy. Some of our 4th grade leaders created a video introducing this launch next year! Check it out here: Long Lake HOUSE Introduction Video
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL: Wednesday, June 11th
is a half day and our Last Day of School. School dismisses at 12:12 p.m. We will be bidding farewell to our 5th graders with a Clap out Parade through the school at 12:05 p.m. Bring your noise makers and join us outside the front entrance if you’re able!
REPORT CARDS: Report cards will also be coming home on the last day of school in backpacks. Please check to make sure you don’t have any library books at home or outstanding cafeteria charges.
SCHOOL SUMMER HOURS: TCAPSElementary school offices will be closed from June 16th-August 15th and emails/messages will be responded to once staff return back on August 18th. During summer dates, if you have questions, a district registrar office will be open. The contact for this office is: 231-933-1761. You can find more information here: https://www.tcaps.net/enroll/
2025-26 SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS: As you catch summer sales, here are the school supply lists for each grade level for next year!
SAVE THE DATE 2025-26 OPEN HOUSE/MEET THE TEACHER: Please save the date for Open House & Meet the Teacher for next school year on Tuesday, August 26th. Incoming Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten Students will also have a Signing Day to meet teachers and visit campus on August 21st. Please save the date to join us for those events!
SUMMER RESOURCES: Summer slide is an unfortunate follow up to all the hard work of the school year. When students don’t regularly use those skills, they lose some of them. It also can take some time for students to regain skills upon return in the fall. By doing small practice activities over the summer, students can prevent some of the learning loss. We want students enjoy all the fun that summer has to offer, but also engage in a sprinkle of academic practice too. Mrs. Burwinkel’s summer challenge is: Finish any summer workbook (you can choose one of the options below or any other one). Turn in the completed book to school in September and receive a Medal from the school! Please write the students’ name on the front cover and send to school any day that we return. Your child’s teacher may have other ideas and resources for meaningful practice over summer. Thanks for helping us keep those strong skills!
