LL News: 10.13.24 Half Day on Monday
This coming Monday is a Half Day of School for Students! Long Lake will dismiss at 12:12 p.m.
LL HALLOWEEN PARADE October 31st: Long Lake will be hosting a Halloween Parade on Thursday, October 31st at 9:20 a.m. at our outdoor track. Students should come to school wearing their costumes and bring a change of clothes. Parents can join the parade by walking around the side of the building and stand on the inside of the track. Our parade will move inside if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Please see the flyer below for information about how to participate and costumes that day. Flyer Here
Fall Festival: Join us for our Family Fall Festival on October 17th from 4:10-6:00 p.m. in the front Picnic Area by the bus loop. Families can purchase pumpkins, cider and take photos. Funds raised from this event will help decrease cost of yearbooks for families in need. Check out the flyer here.

PANTHER PUMPKIN PROJECT: We’d love for you to join us in creating a pumpkin for our Panther Pumpkin Project! It runs from October 21st thru October 24th. Students can decorate (not carve) a pumpkin based upon the chosen theme of "Favorite Movie" for this year. Then bring the pumpkin to school to be judged by all the other students. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes from Brilliant Books.
MONSTER MASH DANCE: Save the date for our annual Monster Mash dance on Friday, October 25th. Dig out your favorite Halloween costume and join us for a family friendly Monster Mash dance party! This event is free but we take donations to cover the cost of the DJ and decorations. This event is for current Long Lake students and their families only. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Pizza will be available for purchase for $2 a slice.

LONG LAKE PTO FUNDRAISER: We did it! Thank you again to all of the families for all of your support! We will get to celebrate our overall goal prize...spraying Mrs. Burwinkle with silly string! This will be part of an assembly on November 4th. It will be so much fun!

TCAPS Board of Education Monthly Office Hours The Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Board of Education will host its next monthly “office hours” in person on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. The meeting will be located on the mezzanine level (second floor) of the bookstore. TCAPS Board office hours provide community members with the opportunity to talk to a school board trustee. This month, Trustee Newman-Bale is scheduled to attend.
Superintendent Monthly Office Hours Dr. John VanWagoner's monthly open office hours for community members will be held in person on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 5:00 pm at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. The meeting will be located on the mezzanine level (second floor) of the bookstore.

NEW HOUSE SYSTEM AT LONG LAKE NEXT YEAR: Our school theme next year will be incorporating a House System. You might know about this if you've read any of the Harry Potter books. The House System is also used at a famous school called the Ron Clark Academy. Some of our 4th grade leaders created a video introducing this launch next year! Family members can either bring your own picnic lunch or order a school lunch online here. If you are bringing your own lunch, you do not need to complete this form or RSVP. However, if you would like to order lunch from the school cafeteria for family members who will be attending, please complete the form below. Lunch orders and payment must be turned into the office by Friday May 22nd. Students will have lunch first and then travel to the playground for recess. Families are welcome to join for recess as well!

ALL SCHOOL FIELD TRIP: Our field trip to Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore is this Wednesday May 14th. The buses will depart school at 9:30 and return at 1:45. Students need to bring a bagged lunch (disposable materials) unless a lunch was ordered from our cafeteria through the permission slip. Also please dress your child in clothes that are appropriate for outdoor activities. Unfortunately, parents and visitors can’t decide last minute to join the trip.
EARLY RELEASE TOMORROW: Tomorrow is an Early Release Day for TCAPS. Long Lake dismisses at 2:02 p.m.
STAFF APPRECIATION: This week we get to shower our staff with thanks for ALL the time and efforts they put into educating our students! If interested in joining the trip, please read the Volunteer Standards of Conduct, complete the online volunteer form here and return the interest form to your child’s teacher.
