Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS), in partnership with the Northern Michigan Homefield Alliance and several community organizations, officially broke ground yesterday on a new Afterschool Clubhouse and Multi-Purpose Fieldhouse at 1571 Carlisle Road.

This project represents a landmark public-private collaboration made possible by over $8.5 million in donated funds. To oversee the development, the district has named Traverse City-based Hallmark Construction Inc. as the Construction Manager. The facility will serve as a hub for academic afterschool programming, wellness, and year-round multi-purpose use.

"This groundbreaking is the result of a shared vision between TCAPS and our community," said Dr. John VanWagoner, TCAPS Superintendent. "By combining public initiative with private support, we are creating a space where our youth can thrive in both their studies and personal growth."

The ceremony featured ceremonial digs with student leaders, staff, donors, and the TCAPS Board of Education. The district extends its deepest appreciation to the partners whose support made this project a reality:

  • Northern Michigan Homefield Alliance

  • Traverse City Tourism

  • Joseph G. and Helen I. Zimmerman Charitable Trust

  • Traverse City Track Club

  • Munson Healthcare

  • East Bay Township

  • Cherryland Electric Cooperative

  • Great Lakes Sports Commission

Construction is now underway, marking a significant investment in future TCAPS student and community programming.
