Under Michigan law, high school students have the opportunity to test out of Michigan Merit Curriculum courses in which they can demonstrate proficiency. Section 1279b is designed to allow students to bypass courses where they have already mastered the required knowledge and skills, enabling them to advance to higher-level coursework.
High school students who successfully test out of a course will receive credit toward graduation. To earn credit, they must achieve a minimum score of C+ (78%) or higher on the assessment. Per state guidelines, test-out credits will be recorded as “CR” (credit) on the student’s transcript and will not be factored into their grade point average.
The test-out opportunities will be offered to high school students:
Wednesday, May 6, 2026: 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (West Senior High School)
Saturday, May 9, 2026: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Central High School)
