Students in Mrs. Garrett’s 6th grade science class spent the past two days sailing out on West Grand Traverse Bay with Inland Seas on the Schooner Alliance. They collected a variety of water samples, analyzed different species of fish, mussels, and plankton that they caught, and tested water quality. They learned a little bit about microplastics and how to become a sailor!

What an incredible orchestra concert! We are so proud of our students for all the hard work, dedication, and heart they put into their performance. A special thank you to our incredible teachers and conductors, Mr. Dan Jones and Mr. Andy Evans, for inspiring our students and helping bring out their very best. 🎶

Students in Mrs. Garrett's 7th grade honors science have started their unit on waves with a focus on sound waves to start. They mixed band, orchestra, and science to investigate how instruments look, sound, and feel when they make sound. Afterwards, they asked scientific questions to guide their learning for the month of May.

Students in Mrs. Garrett's 6th grade science class have been studying thermal energy transfer, more commonly known as heat. They have designed cups that will help to keep cold drinks cold for longer! Needing to stay on budget, be environmentally-friendly, fit in a cup holder, and only allow for only one degree increase inside, they worked in teams to engineer the best design and tested it out. Huge shout out to Espresso Bay here in town for donating the cups that students completed this project with.

Our 8th graders had an awesome visit to Central High School today!

Students enjoyed a fun and interactive tour, including a scavenger hunt that helped them get to know the building. They also got active with a game of dodgeball and had the opportunity to sit down with the Student Senate President to ask questions and learn more about what high school life is really like. 🎉

On Saturday, April 18, the Trojan Band Program hosted its own Solo Festival for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band students. Each student prepared a solo and performed in front of a master musician - then received a 10 minute one-on-one clinic! We are proud of our students and their musical accomplishments!

We hope that you join us for our last TC East Middle School Band performance of the year - the annual Spring Band Concert on June 3 featuring all of the Middle School Bands.

TCAPS Transportation and Safety Update

Our TCAPS Administrative team spent the day working closely with Grand Traverse County to evaluate road conditions and finalize bus routing. While families whose students have been rerouted have already been notified, we ask for your patience tomorrow,  as there will likely be delays in both morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off times. School administrators are aware of these delays and are prepared to assist students as they arrive.

To stay updated on your student’s transportation status, please utilize the MyRide K-12 app. You can access Account Setup Instructions and Routing Information online to view real-time routing details at https://www.tcaps.net/page/transportation. The Grand Traverse County Road Commission asks that you plan ahead for the next few days and give yourself extra time. Please use extra caution when traveling and slow down immediately if you encounter areas with standing water.

Also, please note that tomorrow is a scheduled early release day. You can view start and dismissal times athttps://5il.co/3jfxa and the full academic calendar athttps://5il.co/3jfx6. Thank you for your flexibility and for your partnership in keeping our students and drivers safe.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, 7th grade ELA students worked with award-winning poets Joel Fluent Greene and Peace Bell on Thursday. Students collaborated with one another on spring poems and wrote their own cinquain-style poetry, a five-line poem that follows the 2-4-6-8-2 syllable format.
In addition to writing poetry, Trojans listened to the poets share their own work and had an opportunity to ask questions about life as a professional writer.
Special thanks to the nonprofit Building Bridges with Music, which helped to coordinate the workshop.

TCAPS schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18, 2026. This decision was made to prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community by allowing our facilities team and local road crews the time needed to clear the heavy snow received throughout the district and on secondary roads. While all school buildings are closed, the TCAPS Administration Building will be open. Employees who normally report on closure days should report as scheduled.

Students currently enrolled in Michigan Virtual, Acellus, or Dual-Enrolled classes should follow the specific direction of their instructors for those programs.

For more information, please visit www.tcaps.net.
