EMS Trojan and WMS Titan 6th grade science teachers Mrs. Garrett and Miss Harma had their students and families tag team a Beach Clean Up event at Clinch Park on Sunday. There was a great turn out, especially from our TCAPS families bringing 55 volunteers, and together they collected over 2,000 pieces of plastic/garbage and 43.2 pounds of overall plastic waste. Volunteers gathered 490 cigarette butts, 444 tiny pieces (<2.5cm) of plastic, and 186 food wrappers among many other categories.

This event is a culminating effort in a unit centered on microplastics and plastic pollution in the Grand Traverse Watershed.

Today our 8th grade science students had the opportunity to welcome staff from Munson into our classrooms to learn about stress management and mental wellness. Students explored how to identify signs of stress, strategies to manage and decrease stress, and the impact stress can have on overall health.

Thank you to Munson for sharing valuable information and practical tools to help support our students both inside and outside the classroom!

Our 8th graders had a fantastic day exploring the Traverse City area during Clean & Green Day! 🌎💚

Throughout the trip, students learned about how local government operates, how public funds are used, and the importance of conservation and community planning. Stops included The Fish Pass, Wastewater Treatment Facility, Conservation Center, Hickory Hills, and the Historical Barns.

We are proud of our students for their engagement and positive attitudes throughout the day!
