On this Veteran’s Day, we honor and thank all the brave men and women who have served our nation. A special appreciation goes to our own Mr. Mangan, who shared stories of his time in the Marines with our 8th grade students today. He reminded us that those who serve do so for others and for the greater good. Thank you, Mr. Mangan, and thank you to all veterans for your service and sacrifice.

Students in Mr. Bishop and Mrs. Rizzo's sixth-grade Social Studies classes recently worked collaboratively to design and build 3D paper globes of the Earth! This hands-on project encouraged students to apply their geography knowledge while strengthening important skills like teamwork, problem-solving and perseverance.
Through the process, students practiced communicating effectively, sharing responsibilities, and working through challenges together. The finished globes are now proudly hanging in classrooms as a colorful reminder of their hard work, creativity, and growth as cooperative learners!

PURE JOY! 🎃Students in Mrs. Schoolmaster’s classes kicked it old school style this Halloween with a throwback day of parachute games and scooter races! It was all smiles and laughter as our big kids got a taste of that classic elementary-style fun. What a treat to see so much energy, teamwork, and happiness fill the gym!

On Wednesday, students participated in an inside/outside circle activity where they spoke with various partners whith each summarizing one chapter at a time in German! They used pictures on the board and the book to help guide their conversations.
Today’s lesson was just as sweet - literally! Students learned about different German candies, then used conversation slips with candy photos to share their opinions in German. After each exchange, they switched slips and partners, continuing until they had discussed nearly every candy (and with nearly every classmate!).

Things are glowing in 8th grade ELA with Ms. Babiasz's classes! Students reading “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe are doing glowing annotations — identifying literary elements under black lights that make their highlighters shine!

How cool is this? Mr. Hayes, one of our awesome science teachers, has partnered with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Natural Resource Department to bring Sturgeon in the Classroom to WMS!
Students will help raise juvenile sturgeon while learning about conservation and the cultural importance of these incredible fish — culminating in their release back into local rivers.
Our Westside community was treated to three amazing concerts showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of our middle and high school choir programs.

Ms. Botkin and Ms. Hart teamed up their 6th grade ELA classes for an engaging and interactive experience focusing on academic conversations! Students rotated through stations where they participated in thoughtful conversations with their peers using discussion prompts. By using contextual evidence and observations from the text, they worked together to complete graphic organizers and deepen their understanding. Great job, Titans!
A huge thank you to our incredible Traverse City Fire Department for partnering with our Health and Physical Education classes to teach students about fire safety as a part of Fire Prevention Month! We appreciate the time, expertise, and care they invest in helping keep our greatest resource, our kids, safe.
Our incredible STEM teacher Mr. Brush, has created a dynamic, hands-on robotics challenge where students build and operate their own robots to compete in competitions! This exciting activity is not only sparking creativity and problem-solving, but also encouraging teamwork.

West Middle School STEM students had the opportunity to participate in Manufacturing Day today, sponsored by MiSTEM of Northwestern Lower Michigan. This event gives students the unique opportunity to explore local manufacturing careers and learn how modern manufacturing impacts our community. Our Titans had the privilege of visiting TentCraft and Thompson Surgical. Thank you to all manufacturers in our community who helped make this event possible for all area students and schools by opening your doors, giving of your time, and educating our students!
We love seeing our WMS Robotics Team in action at the beautiful West Senior High Innovation and Manufacturing Center! Our talented students are lucky to have such an amazing space to practice, collaborate, and sharpen their robotics skills.
