What is a Smaller Learning Community?

A Smaller Learning Community (SLC) is like a school within a school, where knowing and being known matter. A SLC provides the following opportunities:

  • A more personalized and flexible learning environment
  • Continuation of West Senior High School's rich and robust academic and enrichment offerings
  • Focused instruction around a student's interests and learning styles
  • Teams of teachers across subject areas work together to enhance individual student learning
  • Rigorous, relevant, and individualized learning (projects, internships, advisory programs)
  • Peer mentoring to enhance relationships and learning

Smaller Learning Communities offer students the benefits of a small school learning environment while continuing to provide the diverse and rich curriculum and extracurricular opportunities of a larger school.
