Dear Parents, Students and Web Page visitors,
It is difficult to believe that we are already in the middle of the fall season. Time passes by so quickly. It has been my observation that the transition for the freshmen students to West Senior High School has been very smooth and successful. They have all settled into the routine of the school day and appear to have adjusted to life at the high school.
Fall parent teacher conferences are October 15 from 4:30 – 7:30. Each teacher will have a table or a section of a table to him/herself. You will be able to identify them by their nametags. Parents typically stand in line to talk with a teacher of choice. Freshmen Academy teachers and teachers who primarily teach freshmen students will be located in the first floor A wing. I will be available that evening as will your son/daughter’s counselor.
Many of you have called Martha U’Ren, ninth grade secretary for your Parent Internet Viewer pin number. This access will enable you to check your son/daughter’s grades and attendance. I encourage you to do so. We are offering an Extended Learning Opportunity after school Monday thru Thursday for those students who may be failing a class. If you notice that this is the case and a teacher has not contacted you, then please contact that teacher. We want to work together with you to ensure academic success for your child.
The first trimester ends November 26. Your son/daughter will be participating in exams November 21, 24, and 25. A change from previous years includes three final grades on the students’ transcripts as opposed to two. The first trimester exams count on the official transcript as well as for credit.
Speaking of exams, the students will be required to take one section of the Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP) test this fall. On October 23 they will be taking the Social Studies MEAP test. Please make sure they have a good night sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast that includes some protein for “brain food.”
