10th Grade Principal's Message

"The development of a tree depends on where it is planted.”

Edward Joyner Yale Univ. School

West is a great place to grow educationally, socially, and emotionally! I look forward to seeing all the students again this fall. The Class of 2011 is very special to me. I have known them since they entered seventh grade, and I look forward to providing assistance as they progress to the next stage in the life cycle.

Students:
West has lots of opportunities available for every learner. Whether it is sports, drama, music, academia, art, or clubs, there is a niche for everyone. I encourage each and every one of you to find what fits you best and reach for the top! I also would add that you should challenge yourself to attempt new avenues, as many doors will start opening up for you as you move closer to graduation. Whatever you do, do them to the fullest. Get involved and you will realize that there is a “family atmosphere” in such a large school here at West.

Parents:
If you need any help at all, be sure to come in and see us in the main office. Kathy Bee and I will be glad to help with your needs. Please remember to call in your child’s absence within 48 hours of missing school so we can properly record the absence as excused or unexcused. If not, it becomes unverified and that can affect a student’s credit status. We promise to work as diligently as possible and we need your help to maintain accurate records. Also, please stay connected on “Parent Viewer”. It is a great tool to access your child’s grades.

This year will be more invigorating for everyone as we will have another class (9th grade) here. If you plan on driving to West and picking your child up after school, please do so after 3:15 PM. This will greatly help with the traffic flow.

Please get involved with activities offered this year. Chaperone dances, host float building parties, or just come and eat lunch. You are encouraged to be here as much as possible. Your presence is huge to our success.

Again, I look forward to rekindling our relationships that were started three years ago! Carpe Diem, Class of 2011!
