2016-2017 LEAP Middle School Cross-Country

For Grades 6-8
 

About the Program

Middle school cross-country is open to all 6th-8th grade boys and girls. Co-ed cross-country will run approximately eight weeks in length starting August 22, 2016.

Program Structure

  • Practices will run 4-5 days a week after school at each middle school.
  • LEAP will provide each participant with a dri-fit running shirt to keep. The shirt will serve as the jersey for the season.
  • Approximately six meets/invitationals will be held throughout the season, both during the week and on Saturdays.
  • Transportation will be provided for all weekday out of town contests.
  • The season will conclude on Saturday, October 22.
  • In the event school is closed, no LEAP activities will be held per TCAPS policy. There is no guarantee of a make-up date in the case of inclement weather. Missed games will only be made up if schedules allow.

Registration Deadline

  • August 19, 2016 (A $25 late fee will be applied to the cost of registration after this date.)

Coaches

Practice at East Middle School

What to bring: running shoes, shorts, t-shirt, athletic pants, a jacket, and a water bottle with student’s name on it. No cell phones, iPods, or anything requiring ear buds will be allowed at practice. 

Girls:

Practice at West Middle School

What to bring: running shoes, appropriate clothing, dress in layers. 

  • August 22, 24, 25, 29, 31 and September 1
    8:00 AM – 9:15 AM at West Middle School (meet at front door)

  • Starting September 6, practices will be 2:45 PM – 4:15 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays (unless there is a meet), Thursdays and Fridays.

Cross-Country Meet Schedules: All meets begin at 4 PM unless otherwise noted.

  • September 14 – at Cadillac Invitational – Mackinaw Trail Middle School, 8401 S. Mackinaw Trail, Cadillac
  • September 20 – at TC East Middle School – 1776 Three Mile Road, Traverse City
  • September 27 – at TC West Middle School – 3950 Silver Lake Road, Traverse City
  • October 5 – at Pathfinder Invitational – 11930 South West Bayshore Drive, Traverse City
  • October 15 – at Courtade Elementary School for TC Central Invite – 1111 Rasho Rd, Traverse City, Time TBD
  • October 20 – at Civic Center for All-City Meet – 1213 W. Civic Center Dr, Traverse City
  • October 22 – at Gaylord Invitational - Pines Golf Course, 1535 Opal Lake Rd., Gaylord MI 497353, – 9 AM

2016-2017 Sports Physical Requirement

All 6th, 7th & 8th grade students must have a physical dated on or after April 15, 2016, on file prior to the start of their sports season. The physical form gives TCAPS representatives the ability to authorize treatment in case of a medical emergency. Once on file, sports physicals are good for one school year. Physical forms can be turned into main office at East Middle School and the North Wing Office at West Middle School.

Participation Fee

  • $125 before August 19 or $150 if registered after the deadline.
  • Reduced rates are available to those who qualify for the free and reduced meals program. Participation fees for those that qualify are as follows:
    • Reduced Meals Participation Fee: $70 if registered by deadline or $95 if registered after the deadline.
    • Free Meals Participation Fee: $40 if registered by deadline or $65 if registered after the deadline.

Registration

Payment is required at the time of registration. To register online using a MasterCard or Visa, please follow the link below. Payment with cash or check can be made in the LEAP office located at Central High School, 1150 Milliken, Traverse City. Please use the main school entrance, the LEAP office is located just inside the doors to the right. Office hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
