Way to Grow

Way to Grow is a school-based program for all families with children between birth and five years of age in Grand Traverse County.  Recognizing that school readiness begins at birth, Way to Grow offers a variety of resources to families cost free, including home visits, playgroups, parenting information, early childhood experiences, preschool information, and developmental screenings.

In their first few years, children learn more and at a faster pace than at any other time in life. Way to Grow offers information and skills for making the most of these crucial early learning years by providing timely information on child development and brain research, parent-child activities that encourage language development, intellectual growth, social development, and motor skills, and a direct connection between home and a child's educational future.

For more information about the program please call the TCAPS Early Childhood Hotline at (231) 933-1712 or School Readiness Service Provider for Long Lake, Mary Kolle, at kollema@tcaps.net or 231-360-7571.

How Can I Help Support the Way to Grow Program?
Parents often ask how they may help support the Way To Grow program, which is a free program for families with children ages 0-5. TCAPS' Way to Grow program has been very successful and attendance is high. The program has minimal funds available for items like snacks, printing and mailing—which all add up over the year across TCAPS.

Supporting Way To Grow does not necessarily require any direct personal expense. You may donate items you would normally throw away.   The Way to Grow program can earn money from companies by collecting the following items:

  • Tom’s Receipts
  • Oleson’s Receipts
  • Campbell’s UPCs
  • UPCs from any Spartan Brand Products
  • Box Tops 4 Education
If you would like to participate, please bring your saved receipts, box tops, etc. to your school's Way to Grow School Readiness Service Provider or send them to the Early Childhood Office, Attn: Way to Grow, 412 Webster Street, Traverse City, MI 49686.

To make a monetary donation  to the Way to Grow program, use the online option through the PaySchools system or obtain a donation envelope provided at all Way to Grow playgroups. All donations received will go towards snacks, printing, mailing, and materials. Your support adds to the strength of your program. Thank you for your generosity!
