Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)
The Traverse City Area Public Schools Early Childhood Special Education program provides services to developmentally delayed preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5. Our goal is to assist and provide supports for students to meet their individualized educational plans.
The preschool staff encourages parents and families to be involved in the education of their child. Early Childhood Special Education teachers, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists and instructional assistants provide instruction and therapy.
There are five sites available and children are placed in or close to his/her neighborhood school. Transportation is provided.
Preschool children attend school half days (either AM or PM), four days a week. The fifth day consists of home visits.

Philosophy
The Early Childhood Special Education program adopts the philosophy that every child is unique with an individual pattern of growth and development. The program goals, curriculum and materials are developmentally appropriate and geared to differing abilities. The program provides a safe and nurturing environment, which promotes and integrates the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, communication and self-help areas of development through classroom activities.
