About Central Grade School...
The mission of historic Central Grade School, a center for diversified cultural and educational opportunities, is to enable students and families to achieve their fullest potential by promoting lifelong learning, cultivating talents as valued community members, and developing skills to face the challenges of our changing environment.
Our vision for Central Grade is to become a place where lifelong learning begins.
Central Grade School...where lifelong learning begins. Our school community is characterized by a diverse student body. We currently house about 600 students. At Central, there are about 500 regular education, about 70 talented and gifted, and 33 special education students. While some students are transported from all over our district, as well as from other districts, over 66 Central Grade students walk to school. There are over 90 staff members. This historic, brick building is located in the heart of Olde Towne Traverse City. Its recent renovation has preserved our oldest neighborhood school. It takes up almost the whole block. We have 6 buses, 11 buses for TBA, 6 lunch times from 10:45 to 1:05. A beautiful garden cared for by students and staff. Intramural sports are offered twice a week in the wintertime for 4th and 5th grade students.
