Montessori
TCAPS offers a Toddler Montessori program for ages 18-36 months, a Primary Montessori classroom for ages 3-5, and the TCAPS Elementary Montessori School for ages 6-12. Extended day programs are available for primary and elementary students. All programs follow the philosophy and methodology of Maria Montessori, which emphasizes a child-centered environment that develops character, skills and independent learning.
The Montessori approach envisions education as “an aid to life.” It is a philosophy of child development as well as an educational approach, which respects each child’s unique personality. The Montessori method allows for modification to the needs of the individual, regardless of the level of ability, learning style or social maturity. The focus of Montessori education continually changes in scope & manner to meet the child’s changing needs & interests. TCAPS offers one of the few Michigan public school districts to offer Montessori.
