QUOTE WALL
"There is more treasure in books than in all the loot on Treasure Island."
~Walt Disney
Have you been in the library lately? Have you seen our quote wall? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.Students now have an opportunity to submit quotes to be displayed in the library.
At any time during the year, students may submit a quote. It could be from something they've read, something they've heard, or simply something they've thought about and made up themselves. Print this form, fill it out and bring it to the library.
It is important for students to cite their work. Whether it's the title of a book or a quote from Grandpa, we all want to know where your quote is from. Want to get really official? Use this handy sheet to remind you of "the rules".

BOOK TRAILERS
New! Student-produced library book trailers! Enjoy!
Coming soon to a library near you…book trailers. These four trailers were completed as part of a pilot program here at Willow Hill to offer more computer experience to our students and as a way to promote some of the great books that are being read every day by our students. Starting in November, 5th grade students will be given the opportunity to work with me to create their own book trailer. I hope you enjoy them!
Please visit my moodle page for a look at even more book trailers.

The Willow Hill Elementary School library has been transformed into a medieval castle! Once students enter the library, past two sentries and over the drawbridge, they are transported to another time, a time when Snow White, Goldilocks and the Frog Prince wandered the countryside. Various props related to some of our favorite stories and rhymes are on display alongside actual artifacts from this earlier time period.

The library space was redesigned through the collaborative efforts of several creative parent volunteers. As Mrs. Topol says, “It’s a great way to get our students further engaged with literature that has been passed down over generations of time.” For a month, all 500 students at Willow Hill will be hearing traditional stories during library time.

| December 2, 2011 Library NewsWe had a very successful book fair this year with sales about equal to last year. Close to $8500 in merchandise was purchased through the book fair. Here are other numbers to share which were just as impressive:
From the One for Books program, we earned $251.15 to be used in the library. That means scholastic will donate 251 books to families in need on our behalf!
Every teacher was given at least one book through the Teacher Wish List program. Overall, 67 books were donated in support of our teachers.
Volunteers: The fair couldn’t have run as smoothly as it did without the support of our awesome volunteers. Besides the 25 volunteers who regularly support the library program with weekly help during classroom sessions, many hours were spent making the book fair a success. A total of 51 hours of time was donated during the 7 days of the book fair.
Thank you Willow Hill families and friends for supporting the Willow Hill library!

| November 4, 2011 Library News Thanks to all of you who support our school library by coming in to purchase books for your family and friends. The proceeds from this sale will pay for author visits, reading incentives, and new books for our library.
New this year is an online book fair through Scholastic Books. All sales from this site will still benefit our library. Click on the link above to access the Willow Hill online fair.
Another great fundraiser that is ongoing in support of our school library is Box Tops for Education. Our WHO organization has designated the library as the recipient of these funds. Last year these funds allowed for the purchase of necessary library supplies, and the purchase of our beautiful area rugs. So far this year I was able to renew our many magazine subscriptions with the use of Box Top funds.
Nowadays ten cents isn’t very much money but when close to 500 students work together to bring in ten cents at a time in the form of Box Tops, it’s amazing how fast it adds up. Please consider taking the time to save those box tops and bring them into school TODAY! Remember, your ten cents count!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT! |
| October 7, 2011 Library NewsThe Book Fair is coming to Willow Hill! The Fair will be in the library from October 27th- November 4th during regular library hours (8:30 AM – 3:25 PM) plus during parent/teacher conferences- on October 27th and November 2nd and 4th.
This is a great opportunity to purchase books for your family and friends while also supporting your school library. Think Halloween treats, Thanksgiving baskets or you can purchase a book simply as a gift for a deserving child. There’s nothing quite like the gift of reading. See you at the Book Fair! |
| Library News - September 16, 2011When you are in the library checking out the books, "check out" the new painting of Max and one of the "Wild Things" inside the library. A special thanks goes to Mr. Kirby (Mrs. Topol's husband) who did a fantastic job painting the picture. |
