Pinnacle Web - The new online Web Based Gradebook

The following FAQ's may be helpful in answering some of your questions regarding Pinnacle Web.  If you have additional questions, please e-mail me or call me and I will pay you a visit and update this web page.

FAQ's
Q.  How do you get to the web gradebook from a different computer other than the teacher provided laptop?
A.  Visit the following website: pview.tcaps.net/gradebook

Q.  How do you logon to the gradebook.  
A.  Your username is your SASI ID number and your password will be blank to start.  If you need to reset your password for some reason call Michelle Quigley-Gomez 933-1947 or email her at quigleymi@oper.tcaps.net.

Q.  How do I change my password?

 As I mentioned at the end of last year, the gradebook is now a web-based version of Pinnacle.  When you click on the gradebook link on your laptop at school you will be directed to https://pview.tcaps.net/gradebook/ .  You can also access this link from anywhere you have an internet connection.

 
Following are some items you need to be aware of regarding this new version:
 
  • Currently, there is not a time-out feature.  Once you login your gradebook remains open until you log-out.  It is imperative for the confidentiality of your gradebook and student demographic information that you log out when you are not using the gradebook.  You must assume this responsibility because the system will not do it for you.
  • You will not have access to previous year's classes.  If you need a printed copy of any information from a previous year it is available.  Contact me and I can get you the information.
  • There is no longer an Over-Max warning.  When you are entering assignment grades, make sure you are aware of the Max Value and are entering the correct grades.
  • Due Dates are not restricted to the current marking period.  Make sure when you are entering an assignment you enter it in the correct marking period. .
  • Changes are automatically saved to the database as soon as you enter them.  That has a few implications for you.
            1)    If you lose your connection your changes are not lost.
            2)    As soon as you enter a grade, that grade is visible to parents/student through Parent Internet Viewer.  For parents who have requested to receive a notification email when a grade drops below a percentage they choose and this change causes the quarter grade to drop below that threshold, the parent will receive the email.  If you have questions about how the email notifications work please contact me for further details.
 
  • Categories are not needed.  You may use categories in your classes but it is no longer mandated.  Class files are initially created without categories.
  • Extra Credit works  - when entering an extra credit assignment you should check the Extra Credit check box and enter the appropriate Max Value.
 
The following options are available to you for training:
 
1) This version comes with some excellent help videos.  After you login simply click the help link in the upper right hand corner and choose a topic.
2) I will be offering a class within the first 2 weeks of school.  I will send an email with training dates this week.
3) I will be at EMS 1 day during the first two weeks of school for staff to drop in and ask questions.  Tentative date is Thursday September 11th.  I will send more details when school begins.
4) Log-in to your gradebook and check it out!  Parent Internet Viewer will be available for Parents/Student on September 22nd at the latest.  That gives you a few weeks to try some different options before grades are visible to parents/students.
 
To log in for the first time this school year:  Enter your teacher ID (SASI #) and leave the password blank.  Click OK.  The system will prompt you for a password.  You will enter the password 2 times to verify.  This password must contain at least one letter, at least one number and be 8 to 10 characters in length. 
 
View the class tabs and if you are missing any classes that are in SASI notify me as soon as possible.
