Youth Corps
(updated 3/10/11)
Youth Corps serves high school students, age 14-19, and teaches leadership principles, life skills, employment skills, and good citizenship that help students to discover their full leadership potential.
Traverse City High School's Youth Corps program began in 2004 as a summer model and has grown to include spring and fall components. Youth Corps' mission is to improve student achievement by combining high school academics with relevant learning and the preservation of the region's historical natural areas.
Students wishing to participate in Youth Corps go through an interview process that includes a face-to-face interview, a teamwork project where students can show their leadership capabilities and teamwork potential, and finally a written assignment to reflect on the interview process and insight into themselves as employees. Students are required to provide a resume and dress appropriately for their interview. Grades and attendance are considered during the hiring process.
|
|
Students earn academic credit upon completion of the program and also earn an hourly minimum wage. Typically, a crew of 7 students is hired for each season.
- Spring Crew begins March 14, 2011
- Summer Crew begins July 1, 2011
Current Collaborative Partners include:
- Goodwill Inn
