About TCAPS

TCAPS is a place where students, staff, and our community continue to "reach higher!"

Picture a place where youth engage in unforgettable learning experiences, form lasting relationships with teachers and peers, and gain deep understanding through a comprehensive curriculum in academics, fine and performing arts, athletics, and more. Picture a place where learning is in motion – where students, teachers and specialists work together with parents and the community to provide relevant and rigorous learning opportunities for all students.

That place is TCAPS!  In partnership with a caring community, Traverse City Area Public Schools has created a place -- where our extraordinary staff and students work together with high levels of collaboration and high quality educational programs. Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) offers a comprehensive K-12 curriculum with an enrollment of over 10,000 students throughout a 300-mile geography and nearly 1,500 teaching and support staff. District school facilities include 13 elementary schools (including one Montessori school), two middle schools, two senior highs, and an alternative high school.

Located at the southern end of West Grand Traverse Bay, Traverse City is the home to a vast array of natural resources, educational, arts, cultural, and recreational opportunities. The Traverse City area is known for its spectacular natural beauty, the deep waters of Lake Michigan and rolling, wooded terrain interrupted by acres of orchards. Sport and outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy activities ranging from skiing and snowmobiling in the winter to cycling and water sports in the summer. There is a wonderful diversity of culture in the area. Residents enjoy the Traverse Symphony Orchestra; Dennos Museum Center; Old Town Playhouse; Company Dance Traverse; City Opera House; and Interlochen Center for the Arts, home to the renowned Interlochen Arts Academy and National Music Camp.

We are proud of the quality education offered by Traverse City Area Public Schools, and are continually reaching higher to achieve our vision of providing all students with the knowledge and strategies for a lifetime of learning and successful global citizenship.
