Students at Traverse Heights Elementary School were given the goal of reading 30,240 minutes over a three-week period to help celebrate March is Reading Month. If the students read for 30,240 minutes, that would be the equivalent of one student reading every minute of everyday for three weeks. The students rose to the challenge and then some. Keeping track of minutes read at home, 125 students participated in the program to read a total of 57,519 minutes.
To celebrate the students’ success a school wide assembly was held and the top student readers dressed up like stars and “walked” the red carpet in front of the school building. In addition, to honor a challenge made with students if they were to meet their reading goal, Principal Jessica Ziecina had a pie thrown in her face during the school assembly.
