Traverse City Area Public Schools’ SCI-MA-TECH students will compete in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics District Competition being hosted by Traverse City Central High School on February 27th – 28th. Forty Michigan high schools will bring over 900 students, teachers, mentors, sponsors, and family members to participate in this event. This high-tech sporting event will produce excitement and energy for participants and spectators alike, as teams compete for honors and recognition that reward design excellence, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges high school students (working with professional mentors) to design and build a robot to contend in competitions that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration, and the determination of students. The competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. on both days in the Traverse City Central High School gymnasium, 1150 Milliken Drive. The FIRST Robotics Competition schedule is as follows:
Friday, February 27th
8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Practice Session
11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Opening Ceremonies
11:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Seeding Matches
Saturday, February 28th
8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Opening Ceremonies
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Seeding Matches
2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Final Matches
5:00 p.m. Awards Ceremony
Admission is free and open to the public.
TCAPS’ SCI-MA-TECH Program is an enhanced science, math and technology program that enriches the quality of education by inspiring and challenging students through an individualized and integrated curriculum. SCI-MA-TECH has a rigorous curriculum that engages students through participation in exciting and innovative explorations designed to fully prepare them for success in post-secondary education and beyond. The SCI-MA-TECH FIRST Robotics Team is just one example of how this program accomplished its goals.
