Traverse City East Middle School is proud to announce the school’s National Geographic Bee Winner, 8th grade student Tori Fisher. After many rounds of questions and competing against 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students Tori and fellow student, Colin Huls remained. The final round was a tiebreaker and the question was “The Kiraly and Rudas mineral baths in Hungary’s largest city were built during the Ottoman occupation from the mid 1500’s to the late1600’s. Name the city.” Tori answered “Budapest” correctly and will now take a written test to qualify for the State Bee on April 3rd.
Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography.
“TC East Middle School has competed in the National Geographic Bee for a number of years,” said Ali Sullivan, TC East Middle School Teacher. “It gives a venue for those who excel in the knowledge about the world around them.”
