Eastern Elementary School Library Club will be collecting pennies to benefit the “Pennies for Peace” organization to help build schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. With every penny that is raised, Eastern Elementary School will help fund the building of more schools.
The “Pennies for Peace” organization was developed when Greg Mortenson stumbled into a little village in Pakistan named Korphe when he was lost on the Pakistan Mountain K2. The village people of Korphe welcomed and helped him. In return he promised he would build them a school. Korphe is on the banks of the Braldu River and has very limited educational services. Greg Mortenson returned to Korphe and built a school and led the way to build other schools.
Pennies will be collected now through February at Eastern Elementary School.
