Willow Hill Elementary School has been awarded $350 by the TBA Credit Union and Harvitt Insurance Agency/MEEMIC to create a reading garden outside the school library.
“The garden will have a block patio area in which we can incorporate the retirement/memorial bricks that were at the front entrance of the school before renovations,” commented Willow Hill Elementary School Librarian Shar Bogard. “There will be bushes, flowers, reading benches, and a small area for students studying plant growth to plant a small vegetable garden. There will also be a reading area/habitat for butterflies and birds.”
All work and labor will be done with the help of staff, students, and family members. A plaque will be placed in the garden recognizing TBA Credit Union and the Harvitt Insurance Agency/MEEMIC for their generous donation. An open house/garden walk will be held once the garden has been completed.
To help create the Reading Garden, the library will match the grant funds using monies generated from the Boxtops Program. Patio blocks will be sold later this year. The blocks will be inscribed with the name of the donor and placed in the garden. Plant donations will also be accepted in the spring.
