Traverse City Area Public Schools is pleased to announce Lauran Gentry as the new Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach for Traverse City West Senior High School. Gentry will fill the spot left by Jim Sullivan, who retired this past season after many years of coaching. Gentry is a Traverse City Central High School graduate who was an outstanding soccer player for the Traverse City Trojans in her four-year varsity career, earning multiple post-season honors. She was also an excellent volleyball and basketball player during high school.
Lauran continued her soccer career at Albion College where she was a four-year varsity player and the recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award all four years. She was also named MIAA All-Conference and the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week. Lauran earned her Master’s degree from Western Michigan University in counseling, and graduated with high honors. Lauran has served as the assistant varsity coach, as well as the Gold team head coach at TC Central High School. She has also served as an assistant basketball coach at the eighth grade level at Traverse City West Middle School.
“Lauran is exactly what we were looking for in a head girls’ soccer coach. We had some outstanding candidates, but Lauran has been working at TC West Senior High School and we have had the opportunity to see her interact with students and we are confident that she is a great fit,” stated TC West Senior High School Athletic Director Patti Tibaldi. “We feel strongly that a qualified female with college playing experience will greatly benefit our student-athletes. Lauran will be an excellent role model who will challenge our girls to fulfill their potential as both students and athletes. Lauran has never been average at anything she has pursued and I am excited to have such a quality person as an addition to our coaching staff.”
Gentry will be only the third Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach in the history of TC West Senior High School.
