Cherry Knoll Elementary School students were encouraged to keep track of the minutes they read or were read to throughout the summer. Students read at home, at the beach, at camp, and in the car. Over 100 PreK – 5th grade students at Cherry Knoll read a total of 151,516 minutes during their summer vacation (June, July, and August 2008).
By reading throughout the summer students are better able to maintain the reading progress they made during the school year. Students celebrated their success with certificates, ribbons, an ice cream party, and prizes on Friday, September 19th. The theme to the reading celebration was “Camp Out With a Good Book.” Cherry Knoll Elementary School’s Partner in Education, Oleson’s Food Stores, provided ice cream and supplies for the celebration.
Mr. Schweitzer’s fifth grade class was honored as the top class for reading the most minutes. Readers with over 5,000 minutes read were Josafina Mendoza, Madison VanSipe, and Parker Enfield.
Cherry Knoll Elementary School is located at 2075 Cass Road this school year, while its 1800 Three Mile Road location undergoes a complete renovation.
