The debate teams from Traverse City Central High School and Traverse City West Senior High School will be selling rubber ducks for the Friends of Youth Boardman River Duck Race, an annual Cherry Festival event. The race is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. Ducks will be launched at Hannah Lay Park at the Union Street Bridge. The finish line will be at the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce building at the Cass Street Bridge.
On July 9th, debate team members will be selling the ducks downtown from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in front of the Mackinaw Brewing Company. Ducks may also be purchased before the race from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on July 10th by the river at Hannah Lay Park.
Ducks will sell for $5.00 each or six for $20.00. The race is sponsored by the Optimist Club of Traverse City. The Club has generously offered to donate $4.00 per duck to the debate teams.
