On Wednesday, May 28, 2008 Traverse Heights Elementary School is hosting a community celebration of Latino culture. The evening will feature members of the Latino culture from Mexico, Columbia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela. There will be authentic food provided by Osorio’s Restaurant for everyone to enjoy, Mexican and Columbian folk dancing, and a brief discussion of Latin American countries by both students and community members, including Northwestern Michigan College radio host, Ana Maria Hopkins.
The celebration will take place in the Traverse Heights Elementary School cafeteria and gymnasium from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the evening.
Traverse Heights Elementary School has been celebrating the cultures represented within its schools community for four years. “Our school community represents many cultures and we want to embrace and celebrate our similarities as well as our differences,” says Traverse Heights Elementary School’s Family Partnership Team Coordinator, Brandi Carmen.
