Traverse City West Senior High School basketball player, Jessica Oakley, was recently named to the prestigious Academic All-State team by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM). The criteria for the award are that the student-athlete must carry a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) and be named to one of the All-State teams.
Jessica has an overall GPA of 3.98 in an extremely rigorous curriculum. She was named first team All-Conference her past two years, All-Region and Honorable Mention All-State, as well as being recognized on the BCAM post-season teams. Jessica served as one of the team captains this year, leading the Titans to the Big North Conference title, a district title and a regional first round win against Midland Dow High School. Oakley earned four varsity letters in both basketball and volleyball. She was nominated for the MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award and has received numerous academic awards and scholarships. Jessica will attend the University of Michigan in the pre-med program.
“Jessica demonstrates the very best characteristics of the high school student-athlete. She has been a dedicated teammate, exceptional student and wonderful role model,” says Girls Basketball Head Coach and Athletic Director Patti Tibaldi. “She will find great success in her life due to her work ethic, character, and intelligence.”
