Students from Silver Lake Elementary School will enjoy the experience of a planetarium without the need to ever leave their building. On Friday, December 21st, a mobile planetarium, provided by Grand Rapids company Edu-Tainment, will be set up in the school gymnasium. The portable dome is large enough to seat 45 students.

Classes will be taking turns throughout the day to view computer-generated programs that best match their grade level science topics. Examples of the programs include the “Earth’s Wild Ride” where students will experience a simulation of a ride on a water canyon erupting from a volcano and travel through time from the ice age through dinosaurs as an asteroid hits earth, the “Stellarium” program which is more of a planetarium experience where students will view constellations from the night sky from various perspectives from Earth, and “Fantasy Worlds” which was produced jointly by the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the University of Houston and involves work from artists and animators’ creations of possible life-bearing worlds that our telescopes and spacecrafts may someday find around other stars.

This opportunity has been sponsored by the Silver Lake Elementary School PTO and is not open to the general public. Please contact Paula Parshall or Angela Sides at 933-5760 for further information.
