On Friday, December 14, 2007 students from Traverse City High School will host a benefit party to raise money for students experiencing homelessness. All proceeds will be donated to Traverse City Area Public Schools’ Students in Transition Empowerment Program (STEP).
The benefit party will run from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Traverse City High School. Free food, fun and music will be provided. Live music will be provided by: Heart Attack, DE-NYCE, Jackson Swan, Lumberjack Legends, Young Tru, and Evolution and others. Traverse City High School’s Community Learning Coordinator and student volunteers will prepare the free dinner.
All community members and students with ID are invited to attend. Young adults without school identification will need the TCHS Principal’s permission to attend. Admission is $3.00 or $2.00 with a canned good item.
The Students in Transition Empowerment Program (STEP) is a free program offered by Traverse City Area Public Schools that provides supportive education-related services to all students, ages 3 to 17, who do not have permanent housing. The goal of the program is to work with parents, regardless of their residential status, to ensure their school-age children’s regular attendance and academic success in the same school for the entire school year. STEP also advocates for linking parents of young children with early childhood learning experiences beginning at birth. For the 2006-2007-school year, there were 400 TCAPS students in grades K-12 that were identified for this program.
Please contact Mary Preston, Language Arts Teacher, at 933-5874 for more information.
