On Friday, April 27, 2007 three students from Traverse City Area Public Schools will have the chance to read their winning essays at the Law Day luncheon held at the Elks Club in Traverse City at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association sponsored the 2007 Ninth Grade Student Essay Contest. The topic for this year’s contest was “Liberty under the Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy” and essays used civics’ writing guidelines established for the new Michigan Merit Examination.
The top three place winners in the contest were:
First Place Madelaine Mitchell-Ward Traverse City East Junior High School
Second Place Michelle Rizor Traverse City East Junior High School
Third Place Aaron Madison Traverse City West Junior High School
