Thanks to the Traverse City Beach Bums and Traverse City State Bank, Willow Hill Elementary School students were provided the opportunity to earn a general admissions ticket (lawn) to the July 16, 2007, Beach Bums game against the Washington Wild Things! Suntan’ Reading Club, in its second year, encouraged students to “read around the bases,” where students kept track of their accomplishments on a Reading Club poster that represented a baseball diamond. This “home run” program ran from October 2006 – April 2007.
On June 5, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., the Beach Bums will be coming to Willow Hill Elementary School to award prizes to 125 students who “stepped up to the plate” and successfully completed this reading challenge! Along with a visit from Nicholle Meyer, Suntan the bear, and a “few surprise visitors,” participating students will receive a tote bag filled with Beach Bums rewards, which will include a game ticket and a certificate for a free boxed lunch at the Beach Bums game. Additionally, participating students will be recognized for their reading accomplishment during the July 16th game, and afterwards, may run the bases.
Parents and family members may purchase general admission tickets (lawn) to accompany their student to the game by calling the Traverse City Beach Bums ticket office at 943-0100. Beach Bums, general admission (lawn) tickets are good only for the school’s designated night. No refunds or exchanges will be permitted. The Willow Hill Elementary School staff is proud of the students and their reading accomplishment.
