On September 18, 2006 Traverse City West Senior High School and Traverse City Central High School along with other area high schools will conduct opening ceremonies of The Freedom’s Foundation Project. Representatives from Senator Debbie Stabenow and Congressmen Dave Camp and Bart Stupak’s offices will participate. Traverse City West Senior High School will hold their opening ceremonies at 9:00 a.m. and Traverse City Central High School’s ceremonies will begin at 10:30 a.m. Visitors are asked to check in with the Main Office for locations.

The Freedom’s Foundation Project is designed to educate and inspire students to understand, respect, and preserve the values, freedoms, and ideals established by the Founding Fathers and fundamental documents of the United States of America. “The Project was created to help students understand the value of being informed and engaged in the governmental process,” said Richard Terry, founder of Americans Write, a non-partisan legislative research firm in Traverse City that created the Freedom’s Foundation Project. According to Terry, the Project is provided at no cost to area high schools through the generosity and support of area businesses and professional firms.

The three components of the Freedom’s Foundation Project include: a gallery of framed pictures/reproductions of key America documents, an essay contest in celebration of Constitution Week and distributions of an Americans Write Opinion Letter to provide a hands-on experience on being informed and engaged in the legislative process.

Please contact Traverse City West Senior High School main office at 933-7500 or Traverse City Central High School main office at 933-3500 for more information.
