Staff from Traverse City Area Public Schools’ Students in Transition Empowerment Program (STEP) would like to thank the generous contribution made to their program by the grandchildren of a local resident, Ann Hackett, a member of Grace Episocopal Church. Ann’s grandchildren, Anna and Theodore Boulukos, and Haley and Jameson Smith donated $209.77 to the STEP program this past December. The grandchildren, inspired by their grandmother, donated the sum total of their personal coin jars.
In November of 2011, the Grace Episcopal Church vestry (church board), gifted STEP with a very generous donation of $5,000. Grace Episcopal Church’s congregation took the lead in the local faith-based community many years ago in serving homeless adults who are living on the streets of our community. Ann Hackett’s grandchildren were inspired by their grandmother’s involvement, and decided to donate to TCAPS’ STEP.
STEP is a free program offered by Traverse City Area Public Schools that provides supportive education-related services to eligible students who have lost permanent housing due to foreclosure, eviction, or reasons related to economic hardship. The goals of the program are to ensure school stability, remove barriers to full participation in a student’s education, and support academic achievement while children are in residential transition.
