Westwood Elementary School will feature multiple “looping” classrooms this year. Looping is a concept whereby the same group of children move with the same teacher from one grade level to the next, usually staying together for a 2-year cycle. Looping was piloted last year when a group of first grade students moved into second grade and kept their same teacher. It was extremely popular with students and parents as well as the teacher, Mrs. Johnson.
“What is most important about the “looping” concept is the impact that it has on student achievement,” commented Westwoods Elementary School Principal, Sander Scott. “In the second year, students know what to expect, relationships and routines have already been formed, and the classroom can get right down to the business of learning.”
For the 2010-2011 school year Westwood Elementary School will feature three kindergarten to first grade loops, one first to second grade loop, and one second to third grade loop.
Please contact Westwoods Elementary School Principal Sander Scott at (231) 933-7972 or scottsa@tcaps.net for more information.
