Traverse City Area Public Schools is pleased to announce the selection of Traverse City West Senior High School Dance Team as featured performers in the 77th Annual FedEx Orange Bowl Halftime Show in Miami, Florida in January 2011. This football extravaganza will be televised on January 3rd, and pits two of the top Bowl Championship Series (BCS) teams against each other in the newly re-named Sun Life Stadium.
The Titan Dance Team, under the direction of Philip Leete, will perform in front of 77,000 fans during the televised halftime show, along with dancers from across the country and a live guest star. In addition to the halftime show performance, dancers will take part in one of the largest dance conventions in the country. Students will attend classes in a variety of disciplines taught by some of the best and most sought-after choreographers in the industry.
Philip Leete is a graduate of Hope College’s Dance Department and is the current Director and Founder of the Michigan Dance Collective, a professional, modern dance company in Traverse City, Michigan.
“I am proud of the leadership demonstrated by Philip Leete to provide this opportunity for TCAPS’ students,” commented TC West Senior High School Principal, Joe Tibaldi. “I compliment the team’s commitment this summer in preparing for this event.”
The TC West Senior High School Titan Dance Team competed and placed in three events during the last school year; the final resulting in a first place finish at the National Championships in Chicago, Illinois. As a result of their high placement, the team was given an invitation to perform at this year’s FedEx Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.
