On Monday, July 12, 2010 the Traverse City Area Public Schools Board of Education and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 25 ratified a two-year contract.
The financial terms of the contract include a freeze on salary, steps, and longevity payments for both years, a change to a Priority Health plan with higher prescription co-pays and annual deductible, and elimination of mandatory overtime paid for weekend work. This agreement represents a savings to the district of approximately $173,000 each year.
Traverse City Area Public Schools’ Board of Education President Marjorie Rich expressed appreciation for the collaboration and leadership of AFSCME in settling a contract that meets the Board’s expectations for total compensation reductions for this school year, a particularly important accomplishment during this time of significant budget challenges.
“We value the services provided by the employees represented by AFSCME and the collaborative manner in which we arrived at a mutually agreeable contract in these financially difficult times,” stated Board of Education President Marjorie Rich.
AFSCME represents approximately 89 members.
