Old Mission Peninsula School has received a Community Foundation ACE Endowment grant entitled “Books for me to read and share!” This grant will be used to purchase 300 paperback books that will support literacy by allowing 18 children in need of additional reading support to build home libraries of books to read at their own level. For the 2010-2011 school year there will be 70 books for each kindergarten child selected for the program, 110 books for each first grade child selected, and 120 books for each second grade child selected to participate in the program.
“The Community Foundation ACE Grant will allow each child involved to take home each book they learn to read in school to proudly share with family and friends and to "have and to hold" forever,” commented Old Mission Peninsula Principal Patty Olson. “This program, already proven very successful, will help create a new cadre of young readers who successfully access the written word at a very early age.”
