Traverse City Area Public Schools is pleased to announce four of its elementary schools have been accepted for the MiBLSi Co-Hort 7 Cycle for the 2010-2011 school year. This project is designed to help schools develop school-wide support systems in reading and behavior. The grant is a partnership between local schools and the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District. Traverse Heights Elementary School was awarded this three-year grant in January 2010.
“The MiBLSi program has allowed students and staff an opportunity to think about our teaching practices and expectations surrounding our policies and procedures at Traverse Heights Elementary School. The goal of the program is to improve student behavior and allow more opportunities for creating a positive academic environment,” commented Traverse Heights Elementary School Principal Jessica Ziecina. “Since our launch in January, specific targeted instruction has been placed on school-wide expectations and our learning environment. Staff and students are seeing results and we are pleased to continue for the next few years to refine and organize what we are doing to raise the bar for student achievement. The MiBLSi initiative has been a catalyst to make meaningful, long-term change.”
Long Lake, Interlochen, Blair, and Cherry Knoll Elementary Schools have been awarded the grant for the 2010-2011 school year. The intent of the grant is to promote Response to Intervention. Teachers learn how to use data to change instructional practices while promoting a school-wide culture of positive behavior supports. Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MiBLSi) is funded by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education, and Early Intervention Services.
