On Monday June 7th, students from Traverse City West Senior High School will participate in Safe Kids North Shore & Injury Prevention Coalition Distracted Driving program throughout the day. Students will have the opportunity to drive a simulator while they do multi-tasking activities and take a sobriety test wearing goggles that simulate visual limitations while being legally intoxicated. At the end of their drive students will be able to see just how good (or bad) they really did.
Safe Kids North Shore & the local Injury Prevention Coalition are excited to offer a program to help young drivers become aware of just how distractions can affect their ability to drive safely.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 10-19 year olds worldwide, an increasing percentage of which are due to driving distractions. Among some of these distractions are passengers, texting, cell phones, applying make-up, and eating. This problem is growing at an alarming rate.
