On Wednesday, April 28th, preschool students from Westwoods Elementary School will have the opportunity to watch their principal, Sander Scott learn how to shear an alpaca. TCAPS employee Kathy Easter will bring three of her alpaca’s to Westwoods Elementary School to demonstrate the shearing process. Preschool students have been studying animals and will further their learning by observing the shearing process and discuss alpaca fiber (similar to wool) and its many uses. The event will take place at 10:15 a.m. on the Westwoods Elementary School playground, 1500 Fisher Road.
The alpaca is a domesticated species of South American Cemelid. It resembles a small llama in appearance. Unlike llamas, alpacas were bred specifically for their fiber. Alpaca fiber is used for making knitted and woven items.
Please contact Kathy Easter at (231) 933-7980 or easterka@tcaps.net for more information.
