Fifth grade students entering into sixth grade for the 2010-2011 school year will need to meet new immunizations requirements before attending class in the fall. The three new immunization requirements are as follows:

  • 2 doses of Chickenpox Vaccine (Varicella) or a history of Chickenpox
  • 1 dose of Meningitis Vaccine (Meningococcal)
  • 1 dose of Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap) Vaccine (if 5 years have passed since last dose of Tetanus/Diphtheria Vaccine DtaP, Td, or DT)
Vaccines may be received by healthcare providers, Grand Traverse County Health Department, Munson Medical Center Specialty Immunization Walk-In Clinic, or the Youth and Wellness Center.

The Grand Traverse Health Department has scheduled numerous clinics to accommodate the large number of fifth grade students who will need these vaccines prior to next fall. Clinics will be held at the Grand Traverse Mall (next to JC Penney) in the Food Court on the following dates and times:

  • Wednesday                   April 21st from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
                                        May 5th, 12th, and 19th from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

  • Saturday                      April 24th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Please bring your child’s immunization record and health insurance card (if available). If your student is not insured, there will be an administrative cost of $7.00 for each vaccine.

H1N1, HPV, and Hepatitis B vaccines will also be available as needed.
