Traverse City Central High School tenth grade student, Tristan Worthington and ninth grade student, Christina Karakos have been recognized as winners in the American History Essay Contest sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The subject of the essay contest this year was “The Completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad.” Students were invited to write from one of several perspectives, such as, “How you felt on May 10, 1869, when the golden spike was driven at Promontory Summit, Utah?”
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
