Members of TCAPS’ Administration and the Traverse City Education Association met to discuss reducing the number of half-days currently scheduled for the 2009-2010 calendar. An agreement was not reached to change the calendar. By combining the four remaining half-days into two whole days, the District would have saved approximately $40,000 this school year. TCAPS’ Administration also proposed to eliminate three whole days this year and add minutes to the school day, which would have saved an additional $100,000. Next year’s savings would have been approximately $127,000 for an accumulated two-year savings of $267,000.
The 2009-2010 calendar will only be modified by the addition of one make-up day for inclement weather. Blair Elementary School and TC West Middle School will not be required to make-up additional time lost due to H1N1.
If there are no additional snow days, the schedule for the last week of school will be as follows:
June 14– 15 Full-day of school for all Traverse City Area Public Schools’ students on Monday, June 14th, and Tuesday, June 15th.
June 16– 17 Half-day of school for all Traverse City Area Public Schools’ students on Wednesday, June 16th, and Thursday, June 17th.
