Traverse City Area Public Schools’ middle school students recently competed in the Grand Traverse County Spelling Bee. After two and a half hours and 18 rounds of competition, sixth grade student, Nicole Blakkan-Esser is the 2010 Grand Traverse County Spelling Bee Champion. Nicole’s spelling words included:
Aquatic Macron
Barabara Mikado
Bruin Notochord
Eiderdown Pyre
Fallacy Regime
Fastidious Regime
Isinglass Samaritan
Kremlin Scampi
Kudzu Virtuoso
Wampum
"We are so proud of Nicole's efforts and wish her the best of luck in the upcoming rounds!" commented Traverse City West Middle School Principal Pam Alfieri.
Nicole, along with five runner-ups will compete in the Regional Spelling Bee to be held on Sunday, March 14th, at 1:00 p.m. in the City Opera House, 106 E Front Street. The winner of the Regional Spelling Bee will go on to Washington D.C. for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
