Traverse City Area Public Schools, along with other school districts throughout Michigan, will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 12th – 16th, as adopted by the State Board of Education. TCAPS’ schools will celebrate each day during National School Lunch Week with the following activities:
Elementary school students will have an opportunity to win a prize if their school lunch tray has been marked as a “Lucky Tray.” Lunch trays will be marked randomly. Prizes include electronic jump ropes, hacky sacks, stickers, and pedometers.
Secondary school students will have the opportunity to submit a new healthy school lunch idea and recipe. A registered dietitian will review all submitted entries and select a winner. The winner of the new healthy school lunch idea/recipe will receive an iPod Nano or iPod Touch MP3 player. All prizes have been made possible through sponsors.
For parents wishing to help their children make smart choices, school menus are posted on TCAPS’ Web site at www.tcap.net. Nutritional analysis is provided for all menus and a listing of food allergens is also provided for elementary menus.
